E. Mrs. Lise Gregoire-van Haaren\, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York. \nDate and Location \nWhen: March 11\, 2025.  6:00 to 8:00 p.m. \nWhere: The Penn Club of New York \nThroughout the year\, the Columbia University Club Foundation\, the United Nations Association of New York\, and the Columbia University Club of New York host esteemed UN Ambassadors to discuss critical global issues. This exclusive event provides members with firsthand insights into key international affairs. \nH. E. Mrs. Lise Gregoire-van Haaren is Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York.\nPrior to this position\, from August 2019 to August 2024\, she was Director responsible for European Union affairs at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as deputy Director-General for European Cooperation. \nFrom 2016 to 2019 she was (the first female) Ambassador – Deputy Permanent Representative – of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York and one of the two Ambassadors representing the Kingdom in the UN Security Council (2018). \nBefore joining the Permanent Mission in New York\, H. E. Mrs. Gregoire-van Haaren was Head of the Political Affairs department in the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague\, a post she held since 2013. Prior to that\, from 2009 to 2013\, she was Counsellor (Antici) at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the European Union in Brussels. \nHer first posting abroad was at the Netherlands Embassy in Paris\, as First Secretary Political Affairs\, from 2005 to 2009. In the run-up to that posting\, she studied at the Ecole Nationale d’Administration. After fulfilling her diplomatic training\, she held several positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\, including as Advisor to the Director-General Regional Policy and Consular Affairs (2001-2004) as well as Policy Officer EU asylum and Migration policy (2000-2001). \nBefore her diplomatic career\, she worked as a Policy Officer at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations of the Netherlands in The Hague and at the Directorate-General Justice and Home Affairs of the European Commission in Brussels. During and after her studies\, she did several traineeships in Paris\, Utrecht and Ankara. \nBorn in Ede in August 1974\, H. E. Mrs. Gregoire-van Haaren holds a degree in Business Communication Studies from Radboud University Nijmegen. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Strasbourg (Promotion Martin Luther King). During her studies in Nijmegen she did a one year Erasmus-exchange at the Ecole commerciale de la Chambre de Commerce et d’Industries de Paris. She holds several certificates of Italian language studies at Universita’ degli studi di Firenze. \nShe is married to Mr. Emile Gregoire\, with one son. \nH. E. Mrs. Gregoire-van Haaren loves spending time with her family and enjoys the outdoors\, hiking in the forest with the dog or getting a breath of fresh air on the beach. She likes discovering new things through travel\, reading and cultural activities. \nMODERATOR:  Stéphanie Fillion\nStéphanie Fillion is a New York-based reporter specializing in foreign affairs and human rights and a United Nations correspondent. Her work was published in outlets like Forbes\, Foreign Policy\, Radio-Canada\, La Stampa and the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun. \nShe has a master’s degree in journalism\, politics and global affairs from Columbia University and a BA in political science from McGill University. \nIn recent years\, her UN coverage received two UN Correspondent Association awards as well as a Gracie award from the Alliance for Women in Media. \nShe writes in French\, English and Italian.
