SOLD OUT – Edward Cardinal Egan: Pope Francis, “The People’s Pope”

This event is sold out. Contact events@columbiaclub.org with questions.

Edward Cardinal Egan was elevated to the Cardinalate with the future Pope Francis in the spring of 2001 and worked closely with him in connection with a Synod of Bishops, which Cardinal Egan was assigned to lead in the fall of 2001. Pope Francis was at the time Jorge Cardinal Bergoglio, the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and a member of the Committee overseeing the Synod.

Their friendship has continued to blossom throughout the years. In June of 2013, Cardinal Egan met with Pope Francis in Rome. He visited again in February of 2014 for a four-day meeting at the Vatican.

Join Edward Cardinal Egan as he discusses the life of Pope Francis before his election as Bishop of Rome and shares his impressions about the words and actions of the pope over the past several months in which he has come to be so well-known and widely admired as “The People’s Pope.”
