Circles are member-created and member-run spaces for connecting around shared interests, arranging informal get-togethers, and community discussion.
Please read the following before joining or creating a Circle.
Not a Club-Sanctioned Program
Circles are an informal community tool provided for members’ convenience. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, activities, meetups, and events organized within a Circle are not official Columbia University Club of New York (CUCNY) events, are not sponsored, endorsed, supervised, or organized by CUCNY, and do not carry the Club’s official backing, insurance coverage, or oversight.
No Liability or Responsibility
CUCNY, its officers, directors, employees, and agents:
- Are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or conduct of any Circle, its members, or their posts;
- Do not vet, endorse, or guarantee the safety, suitability, or legitimacy of any meetup, gathering, activity, or event organized through a Circle;
- Assume no liability for any injury, loss, damage, dispute, or harm arising from participation in a Circle or any activity organized through one, whether occurring online or in person;
- Are not responsible for verifying the identity, credentials, or intentions of any member participating in a Circle.
Participation Is Voluntary and At Your Own Risk
By joining, creating, or participating in a Circle — including any in-person meetup arranged through one — you acknowledge that your participation is voluntary and at your own risk. You are responsible for exercising your own judgment regarding your safety and the safety of any activity you choose to attend or organize.
Circle Organizers Are Not Club Representatives
Members who create or moderate a Circle do so as volunteers acting in their individual capacity. They are not agents, representatives, or employees of CUCNY, and their statements or actions within a Circle do not represent the official positions or views of the Club.
Reporting Concerns
While CUCNY does not supervise Circle activity, we do ask that members report any behavior that violates our Circle Guidelines or Terms of Use using the in-Circle reporting tool, so that a moderator or administrator can review it.
Official Club Events
Events organized directly by CUCNY — including those ticketed or listed through our official Events calendar — remain separate from Circles and carry the Club’s standard event terms and conditions. If you’re unsure whether something is an official Club event, check the Events page or contact the Club directly.
