SOLD OUT – Opera Night: Norma at The Metropolitan Opera

This event is sold out.

Join Professor of Music, W. Anthony Sheppard, for the Metropolitan Opera’s presentation of Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma. While you dine at the Club, Professor Sheppard will play excerpts from the night’s opera and give you an overview of the plot and musical highlights, locating the work in its artistic and historical context to enhance your experience of the performance. After dessert, you will be whisked away to Lincoln Center where your seats in the Dress Circle await you.

Norma was first produced at La Scala on 26 December 1831, and is based on the dramatic tragedy of the same name by Alexandre Soume. The work is generally regarded as an example of the supreme height of the bel canto tradition, and its title role features one of the most demanding soprano performances in the history of opera. Since its premiere, the role has been taken on by some of opera’s most talented female performers, and for their production, the Met grants the challenge to the enormously talented Sondra Radvanovsky.

5:30pm: Dinner

7:30pm: Performance

Cost: $169 per person (includes 3-course dinner, lecture, ticket, and transportation to the opera house)
