Paul L. Whalen ’78: Designing 15 Central Park West, Iconic Projects in New York, and China Today
Paul Whalen, Partner, has been with Robert A.M. Stern Architects since 1981. During this time he has focused on community-making at various scales, designing private homes, apartment buildings, country clubs, hotels, and large-scale town and urban planning projects. Whalen is Partner-in-Charge of RAMSA’s representative office in Beijing.
His projects include 15 Central Park West, a building that achieved the highest sales prices in New York City; and eight buildings for the Related Companies in New York and Boston.
Whalen was partner-in-charge of two of the most influential planning projects of our time: the new town of Celebration, Florida, and plan and guidelines that revived the theater block of New York City’s 42nd Street.
Whalen graduated from Columbia University in 1978 and received his Master of Architecture from Princeton University in 1981. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and is a registered architect in New York and sixteen other states.
