Professor Bernard Haykel: Understanding The Arab Spring Uprisings

Bernard Haykel is a leading expert on the Arabian peninsula, with research focused on its modern politics and history. Haykel is a professor of Near Eastern studies at Princeton University, where he is also the director of the Institute for Transregional Studies. His current explorations center on Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Professor Haykel is particularly concerned with the political and social tensions that arise from the question of religious identity. Professor Haykel received his doctorate in Islamic studies from the University of Oxford.
