The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Interwoven Globe

The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Interwoven Globe

Join us for a show the New York Times raves “will benefit as few shows do from repeated visits.” A seasoned, professional docent will guide us through the Interwoven Globe exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art – an exploration of traded textiles from the 1500s to 1800s.

These stunning pieces of material culture tell a larger story of humanity and historical exchange. The expansiveness of the exhibit – the textures and techniques, imagery and styles – and the witty juxtapositions create “many drop-dead moments in which pictorial power, astonishing skill and cultural cross-germination collude” (NYTimes).

After the tour, we will enjoy a meal adjacent to the Carroll and Milton Petrie European Sculpture Court, giving us plenty of time to ruminate on what we’ve just seen. And perhaps enough energy to go see it again! Members are free to explore the museum after lunch.
