Censorship and Anti-Censorship in China

Censorship and Anti-Censorship in China

Censorship is considered by many to be the “21st Century Berlin Wall” that divides our world. China, in particular, has spent the most amounts of resources to fortify this wall. While China has emerged as a global power over the past two decades, it is in many ways still a closed society. But that may be changing.

In this presentation, Dr. Samuel Zhou will give an overview of censorship and the anti-censorship work over satellite TV and the Internet in China, in relation to the recent political dynamics in China.

Samuel (Shiyu) Zhou, Ph.D. is Vice President of Development at New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television, the only U.S.-based independent TV network broadcasting uncensored Chinese programming to China. He is one of the founders of NTD Television. He is Deputy Director of the Global Internet Freedom Consortium, a leading organization bringing free information to closed societies around the world.

Dr. Zhou has given speeches and expert testimony on China issues to the Senate, the House, and before the Congressional Executive Commission on China, and has also been interviewed about censorship in China by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, and a number of other international publications.
