NYC 400 Anniversary Talk
Join historian and Club member Kevin Draper for an extraordinary journey through 400 years of New York City’s rich and dynamic history. Beginning with the Lenape, the Indigenous people who first called the area Lenapehoking, Mr. Draper will trace the city’s transformation through the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam, the English takeover, and its pivotal role in the American Revolution.
Explore New York’s rise as a global port during the 19th century, its dramatic waves of immigration, and the industrial boom that made it a powerhouse. Learn about the city’s resilience through tragedies and difficult times like the Great Fire, the Great Depression, and September 11 attacks. Mr. Draper will also weave together key events, figures, and stories that have defined New York as a cultural and economic capital.
